The primary focus of this client-facing role is to support the Benefits Department in a specific function or as a full-range Benefits customer service professional. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of Benefits experience and have a strong analytical mind. The Benefits Generalist is expected to exercise a defined set of functions on a daily basis, exercising autonomy in matters of familiarity or of low complexity.  The ability to manage work volume in an intelligent and focused manner is central to success in this role.  Strong administrative skills and experience, the ability to navigate the HRIS with confidence, and accurate numerical data entry skills are essential.  Excellent communication and customer service skills are required. 

Essential Duties:
  • Evaluate client's current Benefit practices. Identifies gaps and inefficiencies. Provides recommendations by utilizing Benefit products and services, including but not limited to, benefits administration, to maximize client satisfaction and retention. Assists clients and internal associates with developing and implementing compliant  Benefit practices. Manages assigned accounts based on clients’ needs.
  • Consults with HR Team,  to ensure client HR and Benefits programs and policies are aligned with appropriate state and federal laws and regulations. Ensures proper execution of policies and business rules which support XcelHR, client needs, and state and federal laws.
  • Exercises judgment and makes effective decisions when interpreting HR and Benefits policies and regulations. Reviews and resolves issues by utilizing plan documents and business rules. Communicate with vendors, clients, and worksite employees regarding policies, benefit eligibility, claims, and employee rights and responsibilities. Analyzes and audits cases to ensure accuracy and timely delivery of HR and Benefits products and services.
  • Serves as a liaison for all Benefit inquiries and issues, both internally and externally. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal associates. Communicates plan interpretations, assisting with eligibility issues, and claims.
  • Administers group health and welfare plans, including, but not limited to, Health, Life, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, Leaves Administration, Disability Insurance, and Commuter Benefits. Ensures benefit plans are within the guidelines of Section 125, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and any city, state, and federal laws. 
  • Delivers Benefit products and services according to XcelHR Service Agreements. Provides a high level of quality service to clients, employees, vendors, and client associates. Identifies discrepancies and follows up to resolve. Resolves escalated issues through problem solving, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Maintains current knowledge of evolving Benefit legislation. Proposes new procedures and processes to enhance the delivery of Benefit products and services
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs Excel and Word. Beginning to Intermediate skill level in Microsoft office program PowerPoint.
  • Minimum 1-year experience with HRIS systems.
  • Proven experience in a customer service environment.
  • Previous experience in benefits administration.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in health and welfare benefits training and/or process documentation is a plus.
