What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer, Developer Tooling position at Xometry Inc.?

Xometry is looking for a mid- to senior-level software engineer to join our growing software engineering team. As we grow, we need somebody who is passionate about developer productivity and tools, in order to continue building our software development speed and reliability.
The right person will help move our team and our software to the next level. You’ll be working as part of a skilled, collaborative team to implement high-visibility applications. This is an ideal job for somebody who has 3 years of experience and has been successful integrating and building tools for your team. You will play a crucial role in the Xometry platform and everything you do will matter.
What’s the job?
● Help our team improve their development workflows in many different ways. Possibilities include:
○ Faster webpack or other typescript/javascript build cycles.
○ Faster python type-checking
○ Build tooling that publishes GraphQL and OpenAPI schemas, validates those schemas across multiple microservices, and uses them to generate typing and code.
○ Adopt better error handling and monitoring tools.
○ Help the team adopt github codespaces or other development tooling.
● Recommend priorities for improving team development tools.
● Train and mentor members of the team in development tools and practices.
● Operational responsibility for applications built by your team, including taking part in an on-call schedule.
● Participating in hiring and related activities to keep growing our team.
Our tech stack is flexible but is primarily based around small services written in React, Typescript, GraphQL, Python, some Rust, AWS Kubernetes deployments, Mongo and Postgres databases.
Who are you?
● 3 years of experience on a development team.
● You have solid skills in at least shell scripting (bash) and JavaScript.
● You have experience developing in and deploying to a cloud platform, preferably AWS.
● You are fearless at learning new technologies as needed to get things done.
● You have personally integrated or built developer productivity tools for your team.
● Technical experience in both frontend and backend application development.
● Excellent oral and written English.
● Must be able to work hours aligned to US Eastern time (GMT-5)
● Must be a US citizen, green card holder, or legal permanent resident of the United States.
