Assists the Senior Director of Y-12 Engineering in coordinating daily integration of engineering support to the CNS Y-12 Mission. Provides direct leadership of organizational activities, including activities with multiple functions to accomplish a common goal. Responsible for setting standards and performance expectations across organizations and/or programs. Provides strategic leadership or vision to the organization. Assists the Senior Director of Y-12 Engineering withdeveloping the ACB for the fiscal year. Recognized internally and externally as a technical expert or leader in the engineering field. Typically provides cross-organizational expertise. Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive technical activities. Typically, has demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature technical judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented technical problems, determining program objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for diverse activities. Implements company policies and makes recommendations on development of new policies. Sets the safety expectations for the organization and promotes application of lessons learned. Cultivates organizational input to anticipate and plan resource needs for current and future activities. Develops prioritized recommendations to recognize employees who demonstrate discipline, initiative, character, and confidence within the organization. May also develop recommendations for work teams that cross organizational lines. Coordinates with other Engineering division leads to address Mission Engineering objectives. Participates in personnel matters associated with Mission Engineering including employee and leader development. Interfaces with Engineering Managers to address resource needs. Represents Mission Engineering and CNS with external stakeholders, NPO, and DNFSB on assigned areas, both with technical presentations and formal reports. Provides leadership and personal interaction to promote positive work environment and encourages individual involvement. Shares own expertise for the good of the organization. Develops, mentors, and coaches others.

- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering (from an ABET-accredited institution) or one of the Physical Sciences. In addition, a minimum 12 years relevant experience is required. Typical experience exceeds 15 years.
- Requires in-depth knowledge of business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish required activities within a disciplined scheduled framework
- Knowledge of traditional engineering design and nuclear safety processes highly desirable. Demonstrated commitment to and results in continuous improvement at organizational process or functional level
- The ability to develop comprehensive strategies for implementation of subject; effectively communicate and structure messages to achieve end strategy; and maintain cognizance of the team progress along with necessary adjustments
