Under the direction of the supervisor, the group leader performs a wide variety of duties to train, coordinate and direct patient transport workers throughout the facility. Routinely assigned to cleaning assignments.

Responsibilities - 1. Assist Life Star personnel with patient transfers and provides an escort to the appropriate area of the hospital.
- 2. Cleans all equipment after each use and documents issues with faulty equipment and delivers the equipment to Biomedical Engineering to be repaired.
- 3. Performs one man transports for Cardiac Catheterization and special procedure patients monitoring patient throughout process and notifies a nurse immediately of any excessive bleeding.
- 4. Perform as a Dispatcher when needed, to maintain workflow and keep Hospital Volunteers productive and sustain communication between ancillary departments and transporters.
- 5. Transfers patients from non-ambulatory to ambulatory status; to stretcher, bed, unit, surgery or other ancillary departments for testing, etc. Also assists patient in transfers from bed to chair, commode, bathroom etc.
- 6. Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff. Responds to customer requests in a professional and timely manner.
- 7. Trains/orients new employees, assigns work schedules. Acts as resource for staff with any operational questions.
- 8. Organizes, directs and assigns work activities for the team of patient transport department. Maintains safe and effective patient flow utilizing Transport command center. Provides input to supervisor regarding staffs performance. Identifies and communicates any issues in a timely fashion.
- 9. Participates in the work activities of the team as necessary. Functions as a housekeeper or project person as needed and completes special projects as assigned.
- 10. Monitors and adjusts schedules for proper coverage. Maintains shift attendance records of Patient transport workers.
- 11. Ensures that safety rules are followed, materials and equipment are safely stored and that unsafe working conditions are reported.
- 12. Trains staff to safely operate all equipment according to manufacturer specification.
- 13. Consistently leads by example.
- 14. May conduct rounds to ensure staff is in their area and performing their assigned duties.
- 15. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
- 16. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
- 17. DIRECTION OF OTHERS
- 17.1 May provide daily shift direction to up to 22 Patient transport workers per shift.
QualificationsEDUCATION
High School graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Customer service experience and one year in a supervisory capacity preferred. Minimum of one-three years Patient Transport experience required. Will need to meet eligibility qualification Knowledge of policy and procedures and the ability to teach the procedures; supervisory instructional techniques preferred.
LICENSURE
Must have and maintains certifications in CPR.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Able to read, write and speak English; able to perform simple mathematical calculations, additions, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Position will float primarily between days and evenings but an occasional night shift will be required.
