Position Focus:
Our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150 providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, a 24/7 Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.
The Central Sterile Technician decontaminates, cleans, sorts, inspects, organizes, wraps and sterilizes medical surgical supplies for all of Yale Health. Additional responsibilities include:
Clean and disinfect Endoscopes during and following endoscopy clinic. Includes meticulous manual cleaning of Endoscopes, leak testing of scope, instrument inspection and Olympus washer operation.
Use of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization chemicals according to OSHA guidelines including full and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
Inspect medical instruments for quality of condition: wrap instruments in preparation for sterilization and execute sterilization process according to written policies and procedures.
Wrap individual medical instruments and instrument sets in preparation for sterilization, inspect instrument for condition, apply color-coding by instrument set and department of use; sort instruments by color-coded department and set.
Operate steam sterilizer, monitor and document steam sterilization process, inspect steam sterilizer equipment and perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
Perform daily biological testing of sterilization systems and document results.
Provide and maintain a clean, uncluttered sterile package storage area.
Provide safe and prompt transport of contaminated and sterilized instruments to and from instrument reprocessing suite.
Order and maintain supplies required for reprocessing suite.
Perform disinfection process on specialized instruments/equipment.
Perform other duties as delegated by manager.
