Position Focus:

This position may require or be eligible for remote work on either a regular or temporary, part-time or full-time basis. Under general direction and reporting to the Post Award Grant Manager, this position is responsible for managing the clinical trials post-award financial operations and financial reporting of the Sections using considerable latitude for exercising discretion and independent judgement. Responsibilities include: Ensure accuracy of financial information and decide on proper handling of financial transactions; Review notice of award and manage post award for budgetary issues; Approve monthly grant and non-grant adjustments for salary expenses (PAAs) and non salary entries (JEs); Signing authority for expenditures up to a designated level, utilizing Yale’s electronic systems, as well as Yale’s manual processes when appropriate; Review PI / section account summaries on a monthly basis; Initiate regularly scheduled financial status meetings with PIs; Update salary and financial work book in YBT and assist in sectional quarterly and annual projections; Identify trends or deviation from standards and assess impact of such trends. Explain or resolve variances. Provide financial and cost analysis on a project basis; Provide long term planning for research funding as needed; Provide information, assistance and training to faculty and other staff members; Additional duties as required. Essential Duties

1. Develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures related to grant management in compliance with all University, NIH and federal and agency guidelines. Participate in the implementation of new or revised University financial policies and procedures. 2. Provide standardized grant/financial management training and professional development opportunities to all new and current Post Award Administrators. Lead regular biweekly meetings with Financial Management staff and disseminate information regarding sponsored awards/financial management as needed. Provide training to faculty and staff related to the grant management function. 3. Provide detailed financial reports to Department leadership, PIs and grant agencies, as needed. Work with appropriate resources (Pre Award Team, OSP and other centralized University offices) to improve financial reporting for faculty. Meet regularly with Post Award Administrators and Operations Managers to help assess workload, improve processes and troubleshoot complex issues as they arise. 4. Along with Operations Managers, develop resource allocation metrics and cross coverage plans. Monitor ongoing performance and use of resources to minimize duplication of effort. Develop and manage capacity model for Post Award Administrators and Financial Assistants to ensure proper staffing levels and recommend changes as needed. 5. Review, recommend and implement standardized budget and financial management processes in order to achieve simplicity, speed and quality for Department. Using recommendations from Central Audit or OSP to strengthen processes and minimize risk for the Department. 6. Develops and maintains knowledge of University finance and budgeting processes and applicable federal, state and university policies and procedures, and the activities of a designated portfolio to ensure effective budget control and financial management. 7. Manage and monitor all related compliance issues including effort reporting, labor and non-labor cost transfers, University audits and reviews. 8. Direct and implement solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and establish and implement consistent university-wide policies for department post award administration. 9. Serve as backup to Post Award staff. 10. May perform other duties, activities, or projects as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and five years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Strong computing skills; high level knowledge of Excel. The ability to work remotely, including an adequate work space with internet access.
