Position Focus:
The Production Assistant is a member of the Yale Broadcast Studio production team, working at the direction of senior producers to provide a variety of key services. Services range from pre-production stage and lighting set-up to punctual transportation of people and equipment with complex delivery schedules across the campus. Under the direction of senior producers, the Production Assistant helps establish production environments including arranging camera positions, set components, and lighting sources. The Production Assistant attends studio and field shoots as needed to provide administrative, production, and technical support. The Production Assistant will help manage the Broadcast Studio’s fleet of vehicles and collaborate with parking and transportation professionals on campus to manage periodic maintenance of these vehicles. The Production Assistant will work with clients to fulfill media duplication orders as well as requests to digitize video and audio materials. Under the direction of senior production personnel, the Production Assistant learns relevant video editing techniques, media capture techniques, proper operation of a teleprompter, and other elements of successful broadcast studio operations. The Production Assistant will also assist with the general upkeep of the Yale Broadcast Studio facility, maintain and organize the Yale Broadcast Studio’s equipment room, and manage the inventory of general office supplies. The position may require work on evenings and weekends. Selected incumbent will operate a company vehicle and must have successful completion of a DMV check and a valid driver’s license.

Essential Duties
1. Instructs and oversees computer operators. Maintains security of assigned area. Safeguards equipment and file information. 2. Identifies and reports hardware and software malfunctions. 3. Initiates corrective action or assists with diagnosis and correction of malfunction. Operates, controls, and maintains computers and related equipment. Transports input and output data. 4. Performs additional functions incidental to computer operation activities.
Required Education and Experience
Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level and high school level education, or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated ability to take work direction and to learn new processes quickly. Willingness to learn a range of production skills such as media duplication and entry-level editing techniques.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose technical problems and determine steps necessary to produce an effective solution. Ability to make decisions where appropriate and within the departmental guidelines
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Confidence, diplomacy, and professionalism to lead, motivate and interact successfully with clients.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Service-minded, self-motivated and ability to work independently in a team environment and across organizational units.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Flexible to adapt to frequently changing weekly schedules.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Five years of experience in a demanding work environment that involves complex scheduling and frequently changing weekly schedules. Prior work experience in a broadcast setting.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 40-pounds
Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
CT Driver’s License to allow for the operation of University-owned vehicles.
