What are the responsibilities and job description for the Starter position at Yard and Groom?
We are looking to add another experienced colt starter to our team. -OR- We would be happy to have a jr assistant / intern to the colt starter.
As our client waiting list grew longer, our young sales horses grew older and we need to catch up.
We do NOT have time to teach you how to ride. We WILL absolutely teach you how to learn to break horses if you're here to intern or working as an assistant.
What you qualify for depends on your experience and ability).
You must be willing to teach the young ones the same language we use, basic natural horsemanship, lots of ground work, desensitizing and eventually softness and suppleness.
We are not a side reins and bitting rig kind of place. Think rope halter, western saddle and feel. Our youngsters trail ride, cross water, hack out and become solid citizens before eventually transitioning to a show hunter / jumper career.
I would be willing to do this on a contract per horse / temporary basis or entertain another idea. I have 16-20 that I would like to start NOW.
They just have to be soft, confident / brave individuals. We can take them over when they are safe enough to not unload someone.
If you do a good job, you could create a spot for yourself here. I also have a neighboring farm with many young ones to start.
So, there are many other opportunities in the area for the right person. This could be full time, part time, live in, live out.
