Job Summary
Yarde Metals is looking for Wrapper at our Southington, CT location to join our Operations Team. A wrapper constructs standard and non-standard boxes, crates, skids and pallets to maintain integrity of the finished products for safe transportation and delivery to our customers.
Responsibilities
- SAFETY FIRST!
- Verify materials match work ticket by checking the location, size, alloy, quantities, and heat/lot number.
- Inspect material for physical damage or defects prior to packaging.
- Read work orders/pull tickets and select appropriate materials for packaging and protection.
- Construct standard and non-standard boxes, crates, skids and pallets to maintain integrity of the finished products for safe transportation and delivery to our customers.
- Select and utilize the appropriate packaging materials and quantities to minimize costs.
- Protect products to prevent impact damage using cardboard corners and other materials.
- Prepare orders for shipment using scales and strapping equipment and following special packing requests listed.
- Deliver material to designated areas by safely operating motorized material handling equipment such as a forklift, side loader and overhead crane.
- Print shipping tags and apply to the work as specified for traceability.
- Scan and stage orders in appropriate shipping and loading zones.
- Monitor linear footage on wood used to package export orders.
- Perform additional warehouse duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
***This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position: requires operating heavy machinery.***
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Warehouse, material handling, and forklift experience preferred.
- Must be able to read, understand, and carry out work instructions in English.
- Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
- Must be able to read and understand basic measurement functions (ruler, caliper, etc.)
- Ability to pass a human performance evaluation to meet physical requirements of the job (lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.)
