The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

Currently the mASD serves approximately 4100 students in Yazoo City and Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. As part of the state’s comprehensive transformation effort, the mASD seeks to become the model for sustainable school and district improvement in areas of the state that have experienced chronic and entrenched underperformance. Over time, the mASD intends to develop the highest-performing, competitively compensated, and most revered educator workforce in the state known for providing instructional excellence and producing significant outcomes for ALL students.

POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

To promote the successful academic, social, physical and emotional development of the student; serves as a liaison among students, parents and school staff to assure the maximum development of the students; assist students in understanding themselves by focusing attention on interests, abilities and needs in relation to home and school

Such duties and responsibilities that may be assigned, including but not limited to:

  • Develops and implements a guidance program which addresses student and instructional program needs.
  • Provides individual and group counseling with students and consultation with parents, teachers, administrators, and agency personnel.
  • Interprets test data to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other staff members working with students.
  • Plans jointly with teachers’ remediation for student problems that interfere with mastery of basic skills.
  • Assists students in selecting appropriate educational activities, evaluating their programs, making intelligent occupational choices, and selecting sound courses of action in their lives.
  • Provides referral, placement and follow-up assistance when needed.
  • Handles record keeping and other routine duties in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Serves as school site point of contact for homeless and foster care students.
  • Keeps current with information, materials, and concepts relative to satisfactory job performance.
  • Works cooperatively with teachers, other counselors, and administrators toward attaining objectives of the school district.
  • Strives for personal and professional growth that will enhance the effectiveness of the total guidance program.
  • Continually updates and re-evaluates the guidance program to meet the needs of the school, community, and students.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Hold standard teaching license and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.
