OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development will manage a portfolio of individual donors and play a critical role in the rapid growth of Year Up to serve more students. The Associate Director of Development's fundraising portfolio will consist of current and prospective individuals and families with a focus on growing our donor base and increasing the number of donors giving $1,000 - $10,000 annually. The Associate Director of Development will work closely with fundraising colleagues and cross-functional colleagues to create and assess strategies to exceed an individual fundraising goal and manage a series of projects or initiatives to not just renew, but acquire and upgrade donors to help meet our organizational philanthropic needs. As an ideal candidate, you will bring experience balancing multiple priorities, and will have demonstrated high initiative and the ability to work independently with external parties. In order to be successful in this role, you will have exceptional organizational and communication skills, and will be able to interact with staff and stakeholders at all levels, showing resourcefulness, flexibility, and a high level of professionalism. The Associate Director of Development will also interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment. We are hiring candidates in San Francisco, CA/Puget Sound, WA, and the New York Metropolitan Area/Greater Boston Area. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Fundraising Independently research, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals and families with the capacity to give $1,000 - $10,000 annually Create and execute creative strategies to engage new donors and retain or upgrade current donors Meet external expectations of fundraising team (meet or exceed weekly donor meetings targets and attend key community events to build Year Up brand within local philanthropic community) Qualify new names and provide warm handoffs to colleagues in alignment with prospect research guidelines Coordinate direct response (email, direct mail) programs and development-related marketing materials as needed to generate brand awareness and annual fund level giving Ensure high-quality and regularly updated data in Salesforce; track outreach, in-person meetings, solicitations, and campaigns in alignment with donor services best practices. Run and analyze Salesforce reports related to key performance indicators like progress to goal Other duties as assigned Site Team/Learning Community Member Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students Participate in staff meetings and trainings QUALIFICATIONS: 4-5 years’ work experience; with preference for experience in a relationship management, sales, marketing, communications, fundraising, or other role that required driving external activity in pursuit of a goal Highly self-motivated, accountable, and able to make decisions independently Capacity for strategic leadership and vision to work with senior leadership on fundraising priorities and to use moves management and metrics to ensure accountability Effectiveness in independent and team work, with assiduous attention to sharing information with others Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Superb organizational skills with strong attention to detail Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project Experience working in donor database, such as Salesforce, preferred Excellent project management skills Highly self-motivated, accountable, and able to make decisions independently Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; ability to adapt accordingly to unanticipated changes A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers Commitment to diversity and inclusion; evidence of cultural sensitivity in past employment or experiences COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Salary: Competitive and commensurate with relevant experience and skills.
