Company Description:
YEMBA is a 501(c)3 organization that provides empowering, innovative, stimulation mentoring and recreation services to at-risk youth designed to educate our youth mentally, physically and spiritually with a life-long learning and service experience through mentorship that will equip them with knowledge and tools for leadership development and success in life.
Job Summary:
The Mentor will be responsible for completing a Mentor Training Program, while facilitating the classroom/workshop activities. Along with mentoring high school and middle school students and providing tutoring assistance and homework help. The ideal candidate for the Mentor position must demonstrate a strong desire and passion for working with at-risk youth. The
Mentor works extensively with the Program Coordinator, Mentors, Jr. Mentors and the youth and their families while educating the community about the organization programs and its benefits. Additionally, the Mentor will be responsible for completing all required documentation.
Reports to: The Mentor reports directly to the: Program Manager
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate workshops
- Create daily data reports and/or as needed
- Recruit students
- Attend and conduct outreach events
- Manage inventory
- Mentor high school and middle school students
- Liaison between organization and parents
- Attend staff meetings
- Assist with Commencement Ceremony
- Tutor and/or check students grades
- Operates professionally in the field on a flexible time schedule, which includes late evenings and weekends.
Communication and Relationship Management
- Represents the agency to broaden community awareness and support, interpreting the agency’s programs and services.
- Encourages family relationships and positive interaction through regularly scheduled family/outreach events.
Development & Training
- Ensures that Jr. mentor and middle school youth update/provide accurate information and record daily attendance and provide information on a daily basis.
- Attend staff trainings/meeting and events as required.
- Evaluates workshops on a regular scheduled basis to determine quality, identify areas for improvement and create a plan to work towards quality improvement.
Fundraising
- Participate in agency wide fundraising events.
- Encourage participants’ /community participation in agency wide fundraising events.

Qualifications:
- College student pursuing bachelor’s degree
OR
- College degree in human service field (education, counseling, phsycology)
- Experience working in a position with responsibility for providing and/or coordinating supportive services to help individuals reach their goals.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated; flexible and ability to adapt to varying situations, schedules and demands o Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills, including listening, facilitating, and presentation delivery
Advanced skills:
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Google Docs (forms and spreadsheets)
