Minimum: Maximum: Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Job Type: Full time Job Title: Estimator Job Description: GENERAL PURPOSE: Analyzes specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for sign projects, or services by performing the following duties personally. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists Computes cost factors and prepares estimates to be used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to cost estimates Organizes and manages centralized cost data and formal process to support cost estimates Analyzes current and completed projects to compare estimated to actual costs to determine reason for discrepancies Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts Maintain working knowledge of all facets of the sign industry and most construction trades to include up and coming trends and technologies MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists Estimating Manager with duties Conducts field surveys Coordinates permitting Represents estimating department in project meetings Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: Interacts daily with customers in-person, electronically, and on the telephone working to determine customer needs and expectations for sign project estimates Interacts daily with employees in the field and in the office to discuss projects and resolve any customer issues or other business matters TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Certificate from a college or technical school in a related discipline required; or six months or more demonstrated experience in estimating sign projects or related areas; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Six months or more demonstrated experience in estimating sign projects or related areas Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures Ability to write reports, business correspondence Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers Ability to apply mathematical calculations regarding estimates Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, inventory, design, internet, order processing, project management, and manufacturing software Ability to communicate in person, electronically, and over the telephone Ability to review documents to estimate projects according to customer needs and expectations PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
