Full-Time/Hourly Non-Exempt

 $16.00-$19.20/Hour

Position Summary:
The Equestrian Coordinator at YMCA Camp Kern oversees the care of the horses and provides guidance to instructors on programming. The coordinator is required to be on site a minimum of two nights a week and on call for urgent and emergency situations on scheduled nights.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide excellent customer service to current and potential guests of Camp Kern.
  • Focuses across departments and completes projects and scheduling to enhance guest experience and support Camp Kern staff.
  • Ensure Equestrian Instructors and Barn Manager have the skills and training necessary to keep participants, employees, and horses safe and healthy while participating in equestrian programming.
  • Oversee instructors as they maintain a herd, including maintaining feed, water, grain, supplements, wound care, and utilize the turnout board, etc.
  • Report program hazards to the Equestrian Director and Maintenance Director and ensure hazards are addressed promptly.
  • Coordinate any necessary outside appointments for horse care, including scheduling vet visits, farrier visits, barn staff monthly schedules, feed orders & pick up, shavings deliveries and purchasing necessary products needed for horse care or equestrian programming.
  • Proactively solve problems.
  • Communicates any suggestions concerns or incidents that may need follow-up in a timely manner.
  • Hands-on experience handling horses with a good understanding of their nature and the ability to foresee dangerous situations.
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable while riding both in the arena and on a trail.
  • Belief that with the right support and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people can achieve at the highest level imaginable.
Core Expectations:
  • Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as required.
  • Takes an active role in the Annual Campaign.
  • Follows membership retention practices of the branch.
  • Is courteous and gives sincere attention to members by answering questions and providing positive and regular feedback to program participants.
  • Knows the names of members and uses their names when speaking with them.
  • Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and records.
  • Attends designated trainings and staff meetings.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Director or Management Staff.
  • Notifies supervisor and reports suspicions of abuse or neglect to appropriate local public service agencies.
  • All employees will adhere to all policies and protocols In the abuse prevention handbook.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A 2-year degree or applicable experience is preferred.
  • Barn or ranch management and herd health experience.
  • Must be able to cover the Barn management min 2 days a week for coverage.
