Martial Arts Instructor

Under the direction of the Youth Sports/Teens Director, the Martial Arts Instructor teaches programs for beginning through advance students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Conduct the program along the guidelines established by the supervisor and the instructor.

2. Supervise all students during the classes.

3. Keep attendance at every class and turn in attendance sheet at the end of the course; provide the supervisor with monthly statistics as needed.

4. Friendly attitude towards all staff members and YMCA participants.

5. Teach participants about healthy lifestyles and nutrition

6. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.

7. Promote YMCA programs through personal attitude and contact with the YMCA community.

8. Turn in evaluation forms at the end of course to the supervisor.

9. Know emergency procedures, rules and regulations.

10. Contact the supervisor if you are going to be late for a class or absent and obtain a suitable replacement.

• The candidate must be qualified to teach, either by black belt ranking or by recommendation of a head instructor. The candidate must have an interest in working with individuals of all ages, must thoroughly understand the YMCA goals and objectives.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification is also required within 30 days of Hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
• Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. aggressive behavior).
• Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations
• Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change.
• Ability to move around the gym/field to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs.
• Ability to lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships.
• Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather)
• Ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as be able to speak and hear.
• Ability to move from program site to branch or site to site, and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area.
• Should have good physical and mental health, and have the energy and emotional stability necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
