What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Outreach Worker - Y on the Fly Mobile Power Up Team-Ft. Bend position at YMCA OF GREATER HOUSTON?
The Assistant Instructor during the Mobile Power Hour will be responsible for supporting the Site Lead Instructor in facilitating innovative recreation and sports programs geared toward participants, in the core areas of health & wellness, self-esteem & youth empowerment. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to provide a quality experience for youth and families of various age groups within schools and communities. Reliable transportation is needed since this position will be responsible to transport supplies to the Y site daily. The ideal candidate will be creative and energetic while ensuring all policies and procedures are properly followed.
Essential Functions:
- Assists Site Lead Instructor in transporting supplies to and from the storage site, ensuring the safety and security of YMCA property at all times.
- Assists with taking inventory of program supplies, breakdown the activity site, and cleaning the program area.
- Promotes and incorporates the YMCA's five core values and character development model into all program activities.
- Assists with instructing and teaching youth sports programs.
- Inspiring and continuous engagement with all members and participants during the program to positively enhance their YMCA experience.
- Supports by actively engaging youth in safe, fun, and educational activities while offering opportunities to make choices, listen, help and support each other.
- Listens to concerns, answers questions, and addresses coaches, players, and parents in a calm and professional manner.
- Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations, or behaviors to Outreach Program Director.
- Dependable, punctual, and organized.
- Follows association-approved instructional curriculum.
- Assists in YMCA annual campaign fundraising and special events.
- Attends all staff meetings and training sessions as requested or required.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. An example includes but is not limited to UKG for review and approval of time worked.

QUALIFICATIONS

- At least 18 years of age.
- Typical requirements prior to the first scheduled shift include: Child Abuse Prevention, Universal Precautions, Workplace Harassment & Bullying, and Information Security Awareness; typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: CPR; First Aid; AED.
- Must possess oral, auditory, and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Must have a keen desire to work with children and be able to relate to them in a positive, patient, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.
- Must have a flexible schedule to work weekends.
- Must possess basic knowledge of sports.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Prior childcare experience. Sports-related knowledge in a youth setting is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
