GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Site Director, the Assistant Site Director is responsible for directing the Before/After School YMCA activities at the specified school, which may include involvement with School’s Out Camp and other special events. She/he is responsible for the organization of the program and will relate directly to students, parents, and school personnel.
KNOW HOW
1. Must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and have 2 years experience working with children (preferably school age).
2. Four- year college degree in education preferred or a minimum of 15 credit hours in education or 24 hours training in YMCA of the USA National Child Care courses and four years experience working directly with children.
3. Understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior and development, including age-appropriate curriculum/activities.
4. Maintain current CPR Heartsaver and First-Aid certifications, Child Abuse Prevention training and Safety & Risk Management training, Principles of Child Care, Working with 5-12 Year Olds or the ability to obtain such training within 60-90 days of employment.
5. Ability to utilize age-appropriate behavior management techniques.
6. Display good organizational skills relating to handling child care documents/paperwork and confidential information.
7. Understands and accepts the goals and philosophy of the YMCA.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accepts and is able to demonstrate the Core Values of the YMCA.
2. Must be at the specified site in adequate time for program set-up duties, arriving at least 10-15 minutes prior to its start.
3. Administer behavior management according to YMCA guidelines.
4. Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the goals of the YMCA Before and After School Program.
5. Follow and maintain discipline policies outlined by the Before and After School manual.
6. Assist with supervising, training and evaluating all site staff.
7. Assist with communicating effectively with parents on a regular basis (e.g. monthly parent newsletter).
8. Assist with communicating effectively with school personnel on a regular basis.
9. Document attendance and emergency information on each child.
10. Assist with maintaining up-to-date records on all children enrolled.
11. Maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
12. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times while at the program site.
13. Attend all staff meetings, site director meetings, training sessions, and Super Saturday trainings.
14. Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures appropriate for the individual site to ensure the safety of the children.
15. Be responsible for the set-up, upkeep and tear-down of the site daily.
16. Promote Before and After School and other YMCA programs
17. Assist with collecting snack and supplies from program office weekly, or as needed.
18. Notify Program Director and Site Director, in writing, of planned absences at least 2 weeks in advance.
19. Retain 90 % of the number of children in the program.
20. Assist with expansion of the program (enrollment should reflect 10-20 % of the total school population) through building positive relations with school personnel, providing quality programs and implementing marketing initiatives as directed.
21. Completion of all YMCA Child Care courses within four to six months of hire date.
22. Work on getting site NSACA Accreditation (with guidance from Program Leadership staff).
23. Assist with recruiting one parent to serve on the Before and After School Parent Advisory Committee.
24. Assist with the development and implementation of two special family events each school year.
25. Address and resolve concerns/complaints and demands of parents regarding difficult situations (i.e. collection of delinquent fees, behavior reports, late pickup, etc).
26. Any other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
