Y-NOW is a one-on-one and curriculum-based group mentoring program that works with youth ages 11-15 who have a parent who is either currently incarcerated or has been previously incarcerated. The Y-NOW Mentoring Case Manager provides support, advocacy, and resources to youth, caregivers, and mentors. 
Job Skills / Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Champions the program’s mission and core values and challenges young people to accept and demonstrate core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and 
  • Role models a person of integrity.
  • Maintains an active caseload of 30 mentor/youth matches and caregivers.
  • Maintains records and statistical information essential for evaluating the progress of participants. Excellent attention to detail is mandatory, as case management records and outcomes must be properly reported/maintained at all times.
  • Supports/fosters a strong program, mentor/mentee relationships, and communication.
  • Facilitates and prepares materials for group sessions and activities.  
  • Incorporates a multidisciplinary team approach to best meet the needs of youth. Conducts school and home visits regularly. Maintains regular contact with caregivers and volunteer mentors.  
  • Attends and facilitates meetings for/with youth scheduled at school, court, home, or YMCA Safe Place Services.  
  • Manages and collaborates with a host of community partners and school administrators for referrals, advocacy, and follow-up needs. 
  • Assists with ongoing program development (short and long term) with the program director.
  • Assists in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and curriculum necessary to achieve the programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Attends meetings/trainings as requested by the program director.
  • Attends community outreach events. 
  • Attends/co-facilitates retreats. 
  • Manages emergency situations on a 24-hour on-call basis.  
  • Maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality and professional boundaries. 
  • Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff, and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to the supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.   
 
KNOW HOW/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High awareness of community resources and referring agencies.
  • Availability to work some nights and weekends. Ability to be out of town for several days at a time for the 3-day retreat for each program class (occurs twice per year). 
  • Minimum of 2 years experience case managing volunteers/mentors, and/or working with high-risk youth, age 11-15; knowledge of children with incarcerated parents and/or youth who have experienced trauma is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with the philosophies of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development.  
  • Strong multi-tasking, organization, and time management skills. 
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook; Microsoft Office) and knowledge of web-based applications.
  • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and valid car insurance. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds. 
  • Ability to drive a YMCA Van. 
  • Ability to work activities both inside and outside (regardless of the weather).

Young people will gain confidence, be inspired, and work hard to break the family cycle of incarceration
Education Requirements (Any) Minimum of 2 years experience case managing volunteers/mentor and/or working with high-risk youth, age 11-15 knowledge of children with incarcerated parents and/or youth who have experienced trauma is preferred.
