Swim Team Head Coach

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director this position will administer and lead the swim team program, and meet the needs of the swim team members. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate and conduct all practices in conjunction with the Aquatics Director and agreed upon pool time.

• Attends all swim meets as a YMCA representative.

• Provide appropriate record keeping on all swimmers, meets and events.

• Assists in the hiring process of Assistant Coaches.

• Supervise and regularly meet with Assistant Coaches.

• Works closely with parent volunteers and the League Commissioner keeping the Aquatic Director informed of any policy changes or league updates.

• Perform all duties as required by the YMCA in accordance with the goals and values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.

• Maintain all certifications required by the YMCA of Greater Rochester.

• Attend all required meetings and trainings.

• Perform all duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must 18 years of age or older.

• Must have a minimum of three years documented coaching experience.

• Must possess the knowledge and ability to teach all competitive strokes, and rules and regulations to team members.

• Must be able to plan practice sessions and swim meets, maintain equipment, and show a responsible attitude toward the team.

• Must hold current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.

• Must hold Oxygen Administration certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

• Prefer certification in YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguarding.

• Prefer certification in YMCA Swim Coach Officials.

• Possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Candidates must understand that significant background noise exists in all indoor and outdoor aquatic environments. In addition, lifeguard candidates should have a minimum hearing threshold of no more than an average of a 25-decibel loss in both ears over a range of frequencies (500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 788 and 3000Hz). Candidates who use hearing aids or other corrective devices for hearing should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, retrieve, or install or attach a hearing aid or corrective device.

• Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.

• Meet strength and lifting requirements.

• Observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility. Candidates who use corrective eyewear should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, clear, or retrieve corrective eyewear

• Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift

• Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally

• Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
