What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Nurse position at YMCA of Lincoln, NE?
SUMMARY
Advises and supervises the medial needs and health conditions at camp.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Directly carries out leadership responsibilities to effectively oversee and guide the Health Specialist and campers in accordance with the Association’s policies, purpose and goals.
- Carries out medical standing orders and protocols.
- Provides pre-camp training and continual instruction and guidance to staff to discuss health and safety procedures, precautions and routines.
- Conducts physical checks of campers and reviews all health records discussing particulars with counselors as needed.
- Reviews contents and assures first aid kids are always adequately maintained.
- Reviews the condition of the infirmary and monitors the inventory of supplies. Makes recommendations and communicates needs to Program Director.
- Assumes responsibility for drugs, medicines and first aid kits brought by campers. Ensures the administration of all medications and treatments according to physician’s (prescription medications) and/or parent’s (over the counter medications) order and keeps accurate records of such treatments.
- Assists in transporting campers and staff to a clinic or hospital as needed.
- Responds seriously and confidentially to suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follows mandated reporting requirements related to abuse.
- Maintains and submits timely reports as assigned.
- Serves as the primary contact for reviewing all incident/accident reports of a medical nature.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Makes self available after hours as needed for medical advice and treatment.
- Performs other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members, including but not limited to housekeeping, sanitation, etc. throughout all YMCA buildings and program areas.
- Performs special projects and other related duties as needed or assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to read, write, talk, see and hear.
- Ability to understand prescription and health examinations from physicians.
- Possesses a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values. Demonstrates this understanding through behavior and actions that support the purpose, mission and values.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in a related field and experience working as a health professional.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Registered Nursing Certification for the State of Nebraska
Valid Driver’s License
CPR, AED & First Aid Certifications
