SCHOOL AGE SERVICES - GROUP LEADER AIDE

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the School Age Site Director, the part-time School Age Group Leader Aide is responsible for providing support/aide in the supervision of a group of children in a before and after care program. Providing a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
• Aids in supervision of a group of children in a day camp environment.
• Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, risk management and emergencies.
• Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
• Accurately report all worked time via approved YMCA Clocking Method: Branch Kiosk, YMCA site phone, YMCA iPad or timesheet.
• Assume duties as directed by the Site Director

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• 16 years of age or older
• High school Student or Graduate/Equivalent
• Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
• Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
• Ability to attend the mandatory summer day camp training.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible work schedule required. Work schedules may vary per the needs of specific before and after sites.

Before care is from 6:30 am until the start of school.

After care is from the end of school until 6:30 pm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to

• Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping
• Some Exposure to the outdoor elements
• Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms
• Exposure to some chemical elements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
