Pay Range : Starts at $ per hour, depending on experience

Position Summary :

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard will responsible for maintaining all aquatic safety procedures, while providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience.

Essential Functions :

Model the YMCA core values : Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility

Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants

Report to work on time, in uniform and at position when shift begins

Check area for hazardous conditions upon arrival

Safeguard lives of members and patrons

Maintain American Red Cross lifeguard certification

Comply with YMCA of Middle Tennessee Aquatic Safety Standards

Enforce facility rules in courteous but firm manner

Keep swimming areas clean and ready for inspection at all times

Secure area by locking all doors and access points when a lifeguard is not on duty

Build relationships and interact with members

Attend all required staff meetings / in-services

Qualifications

Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA

An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative

Must be able to understand and follow all YMCA safety and guidelines

Must be able to work Monday through Friday 4 : 45am-10am

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

Minimum 16 years of age; no lifeguarding experience required

Demonstrate Intermediate swimming ability

Certifications Required :

All required trainings will be provided by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee)

Before start of 1st shift : New Hire Orientation training

Before start of 1st shift : successfully complete American Red Cross Lifeguard training program; obtain / maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification

The American Red Cross certified lifeguard must comply with following standards to maintain his / her certification :

The employee must enforce and maintain the area of responsibility at all times while performing lifeguarding duties.

The employee must maintain his / her American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program technical rescue skill competency at all times during the period certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects;

reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
