POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Swim Instructors create a safe and welcoming environment for participants while instructing and motivating students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA training and curriculum.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedure, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
- Actively participates in department and branch meetings and/or trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 16 years of age
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
- Complete Trainings: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training, including CPR/AED & First Aid training, if needed; Child Abuse Prevention Training (provided by the YMCA)
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Recreational environment; aquatics facility. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or move a maximum of 25 lbs.
- Regular use of pool to instruct participants and participate in in-service training.
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions required.
- On-site attendance required.
