Seasonal Transportation Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Transportation Coordinator oversees the bus drivers and coordinates bus driver schedules and routes.  The Transportation Coordinator is the first point of contact for handling bus request from program areas within the Y and requests outside of the Y (area schools and community organizations).  Will be required to fill in on bus routes as needed and provide safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. Weekend hours on an as needed basis only.  May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Coordinate bus drivers and schedules throughout Pawtucket, Central Falls, North Providence, Cumberland and Lincoln assuring that all routes are covered.
2. Provide guidance and coaching to bus drivers
3. Is the point of contact for all program request for non YMCA community organizations
4. Coordinates the maintenance and repairs of school buses
5. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
6. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.  Cleans out bus each day.
7. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
8. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
9. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
10. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
11. Manages FleetScreen drug testing for drivers
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 3-5 years work experience as a bus driver preferred.
2. Possess appropriate class license and certification for school bus driver in RI
3. Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
4. Knowledge and understanding of the mechanics of a school bus
5. Must know the geographic area of Pawtucket, Central Falls, North Providence, Cumberland and Lincoln
6. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
7. Desire and ability to work with children.
8. Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
9. Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience
10. High school diploma or equivalent required
