POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists camp counselors in providing direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith.
SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR AIDE: Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 16 years of age
Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, or obtain within 30 days of hire date
Previous experience with diverse populations preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop
Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up
Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking
Must be able to lift, pull and pull up to 50 pounds
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings
