POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the Branch Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the
Operations Director is responsible for the overall management, maintenance and appearance
of the facility and pool. The Operations Director is responsible for providing program and facility
leadership within the branch. The Operations Director administers the policies and
procedures for Member Services and provides members, staff and the public with accurate
information regarding YMCA membership and programs.

 
  • Responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the YMCA.
  • Manage all facilities and programs. Provide annual, or as needed, evaluations and training for all staff. Ensure the appropriate staff holds current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Prepare monthly membership reports.
  • Greet all members and public with a smile.
  • Responsible for online receipting of memberships, program registration, etc.
  • Supervises accounting for daily cash drawer; balancing the bank deposits, compiling and transmitting the monthly bank draft.
  • Promote/market and maintain all programs of the branch.
  • Promote, grow and retain memberships of the branch.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep of the entire facility. Also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all branch equipment.
  • Provide leadership in fundraising for the branch, to include the Annual/Capital Campaign.
  • Prepare, execute and evaluate the facility’s annual budget. Assure achievement of branch budget goals.
  • Responsible for branch staff payroll.
  • Coordinate special events.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Purchases equipment, parts and supplies approved by the Regional Branch Director.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director to establish systems for regularly scheduled pool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times.
  • Conducts and or schedules lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Branch Director to plan and manage the annual Aquatics Department budget.  Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities. Identify and recruit active volunteers for the Annual Campaign.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • One to Three years’ experience in aquatics or customer service-related field preferred.
  • One to Three years’ experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
  • Aquatics or operations experience preferred.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR for Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; Oxygen Administration certification; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Current Lifeguard certification required. YMCA Pool Operator on location certification or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Outstanding supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong public relation and interpersonal skills; excellent language/communication/organizational skills.
  • General clerical and computer skills.
  • Ability to control, balance and record financial transactions.
  • Strong ability to learn new software programs.
  • Possess a number of technical skills and have experience in a wide range of physical activities.
  • Must have knowledge required for management of facilities, equipment, resources, programs and staff.
  • Must have knowledge required for maintenance and upkeep of facility and equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, speaking, running, crouching, lifting (25 Lbs.), and walking.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
  • Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard and other equipment.
  • May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time.  May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
  • Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
  • Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, etc.).
