About the Stevens Point Area YMCA
History: Beginning in 1968, the Stevens Point Area YMCA has provided quality programs and services to the people in the Portage County community.
Mission and Focus: Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Through the years, lifestyles and family structures have changed and will continue to do so. Our programs will always reflect the needs of the communities which we serve. YMCAs are mission-driven. We live our mission every day.
Our Y is a total community service organization. We are volunteer founded, volunteer based and volunteer led. Our Y is for people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes.
At the heart of our programs is purpose. This involves instructors, coaches and group leaders capturing the magic of a teachable moment to instill enduring, core values that shape character and self-esteem.
Facilities: The 95,000 square foot facility includes a wellness center with new cardio and weight equipment. The facility also includes group cycling, aerobics studio, aerobic gym, gymnasium, two indoor pools, locker rooms, preschool and drop-in child care, full-day child care center, 4K, preschool, teen center and activity center. In addition, the YMCA manages the Peters Family YMCA Camp Glacier Hollow. Glacier Hollow is a summer camp in Wisconsin that is nestled just 14 miles east of Stevens Point in beautiful Central Wisconsin on Lake Elaine. Outdoor recreation and environmental education / EE based programs are also available to school and youth groups May through September.
Membership: Our membership come from a diverse mix of communities in Portage County. The majority of the Y’s membership is made up of family memberships. Our total Membership consists of 2,261 Units and 4,186 Heads.

Programs and Services: The YMCA provides programs that build a healthy mind, body and spirit for all with programs including personal training, land and aquatic group exercise classes, group cycling, yoga, Pilates, youth and adult sports, swim lessons/swim team, preschool, summer day camp, full-day child care and school age childcare.
Staff: The YMCA is made up of approximately 200 Part Time/Seasonal Staff and 22 Full Time Staff, 17 Policy Volunteers, and 110 Program Volunteers.
Financial: The Stevens Point Area Y has an Operating Budget in excess of $3.5 million.
Annual Campaign Support: The Stevens Point Area YMCA’s philosophy of not turning a child or family away due to inability to pay requires contributions from our community. The campaign to support financial assistance for over 4,000 children and families in Portage County. The Stevens Point Y raises approximately $200,000 annually for its financial assistance program. They also provide approximately $400,000 in community benefit. Financial assistance is given for facility memberships, childcare, summer camp, swim lessons, teen leadership and outreach, youth sports, and other programs. Financial assistance allows less fortunate children to participate in the YMCA programs that stress the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Foundation: The Stevens Point Area YMCA has a separate 15-member Trust/Foundation Board of Directors. The foundation composition is 8 male, 7 female members, 3 ex officio members (2 staff & current Y corporate board chair) and 8 emeritus members.
Community Description: Stevens Point is centrally located in the state on the Wisconsin River at the intersection of Interstate 39 and State Highway 10 in Portage County. Located approximately 110 miles north of Madison, 250 miles northwest of Chicago, and 215 miles east of Minneapolis, we are home to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College. Portage County is an outdoor lover’s wonderland all year round with easy access to more than 40 public lakes and the Wisconsin, Plover and Tomorrow rivers. Excellent trail systems, including the Green Circle Trail and Tomorrow River State Trail attract hikers, cyclists, horseback riders and cross-country skiers, and the 275-acre Schmeeckle Reserve, on the campus of UWSP, is a favorite with birdwatchers, picnickers and nature enthusiasts.

Minimum Candidate Criteria:
- Accredited 4-year college degree.
- Minimum three years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Must have sound business management skills with a conservative fiscal philosophy.
- Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
- Must have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered, for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
Preferred Candidate Criteria:
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. If the candidate does not possess this, then he or she must obtain it within three years from the date of hire.
- Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual and capital campaigns.
- Project management experience with capital projects, including new facility construction and implementation of promotional plans.
- A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
- Individual with a distinguished track record in operational excellence, team leadership and fund development to play a critical role in our community impact.
Position Description & Board Expectations:
The Board of Directors of the Stevens Point Area YMCA is seeking a mission-focused, financially astute, collaborative leader who embodies the core values of the YMCA. The new CEO will be committed to working at a high strategic level with the Board of Directors and will oversee an annual budget of $3.5M, 200 employees and 110 program volunteers.
PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES AND COMPETENCIES OF THE NEXT LEADER:
We are seeking a cause driven leader with competencies in Fiscal Management, Fundraising, Building Relationships, Advancing our Mission and Cause, Leading Operations and Inspiring People. Our new CEO must have strong fiscal management skills, paired with a conservative fiscal philosophy. Maintaining, improving and growing consistent programs, like our Child Care and Camp Operations, as well as fostering community partnerships will be critical in the success of the CEO. Acquiring additional community funds through capital campaigns and fundraising will be required. A demonstrated ability to actively seek out new and innovative ideas to continue developing relationships with our community leaders and non-profits is essential. Our CEO will be expected to take a hands-on approach by having a prominent presence while leading our daily operations. Our CEO will emphasize high employee performance standards, while generating excitement and enthusiasm of staff and volunteers, in order to create loyalty and commitment among these groups.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 annualized, salary commensurate with experience.
Benefits: Retirement contribution (10% paid by the YMCA/2% paid by employee), vacation plan, health plan, relocation reimbursement, and other benefits per personnel policy included.
