Young Life’s Area Director role requires a dynamic, vibrant personality that will help Young Life flourish in the Newburgh community. This person is a highly motivated self-starter with a missional mindset; loves the Lord and has a growing spiritual life outside of the ministry; possesses the perseverance to ask, inspire, and motivate staff, adults, and students in the ministry; must be able to multitask and prioritize what is necessary for the Area at any given time.
Responsibilities:
Spiritual Growth and Responsibilities
Has a relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing spiritually in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word
Actively engaged in a local church
Adheres to Young Life’s policies for staff people.
Volunteer Development/Direct Ministry
Supervise, lead, train, and collaborate with other staff in the local area
Able to inspire and cast vision, inviting new volunteer Committee members and leaders into the ministry while giving them ownership and helping them to develop as leaders
Models and embodies relational ministry (contact work) and earning the right to be heard with students, volunteer leaders, Committee, and donors
Leads a team and staff to plan and execute programmatic ministry events (Club, Campaigners, Camp, etc) with excellence. These are often evening activities.
Implements a training program to help staff, volunteer leaders, and Committee members become excellent in their roles
Executes a Camp strategy that maximizes students’ opportunities to respond and react to the Christian faith. Includes week-long summer camping and weekend camping trips throughout the year as scheduled.
Spiritually develops local staff, volunteer leaders, and Committee members.
Oversees the current direct ministry of one high school and two middle schools while creating a plan to open specialty ministries (Capernaum, YoungLives, YL College etc.)
Resource Development
Provides leadership to the volunteer adult Committee partnering to raise the local area budget of approximately $300,000 as well as maintaining it with stewardship capability
Helps to develop and execute a financial strategy to achieve budgetary goals. This includes personal fundraising, fundraising events, and gathering area donations
Partner with Committee and staff to execute large fundraising events such as: One large banquet, a Trivia Night, a Wing-a-Thon, and a Golf Outing
Is the “Chief Asker, Communicator, and Storyteller”. Has a communication plan for the area to reach new and current parents, students, leaders, school administration, and Committee
National, Divisional, and Regional Responsibilities
Attends National, Divisional, and Regional trainings as assigned. Travels when necessary throughout the year (see attached travel commitment sheet)
Attends month-long assignments at Young Life properties in the summer when assigned (approximately 1 out of every 3 years)
Is an active part of a Regional Event Team throughout the year in charge of planning and executing one of the following: Regional Leader Summit, Fall Camp, or Spring/Fall Staff Overnight meetings.
Some of these responsibilities require travel, overnight stays, etc. throughout the year.
Qualifications:
Passionate about the Lord and adolescents
Strong leader, rallier of people, vision caster
Experience in supervision, development, and mentorship of people
Proven relational skills with both students and adults
Must be a self-starter/initiator
Eager to learn and grow
- teachable
Willingness to participate in many evening/weekend events
Creativity in making events, meetings, and gatherings fun
College Degree preferred
Young Life experience (staff or volunteer) preferred
