Director of Human Resources – Mission Services and Camping

Mission/Authority

The Director of Human Resources – US Mission Support is expected to collaborate with leaders within key centers of expertise at the Service Center and bring expertise to our field, camping, and mission services teams. Specifically, this role is responsible for advising and coaching staff and leaders to ensure that the mission’s HR practices, policies and strategies are executed well and in alignment with Young Life’s Mission Vision, Values and Methods.

Essential Duties:

Spiritual Development

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, study, prayer, and worship.
  • Ensure that all Young Life work is designed and carried out with an awareness of and in alignment with Young Life’s Values and Methods.
  • Develop strong spiritual disciplines and accountability considering possible distance supervision and travel schedule.

Culture

  • Be a visible, present “Culture Carrier.”
  • Lead, shape, and advance Young Life’s culture and core mission.
  • Elevate the collective capability of the HR organization.
  • Make employee engagement a frictionless activity, which yields deep insights and effective actions.

Human Resource Delivery

  • Build strong relationships with field, camping, and mission services leaders, providing coaching to staff on HR processes and programs, driving standardization and best practices.
  • Manage and administer employee relations with timely support and care, ensuring proper retention of documentation.
  • Support the performance management and compensation processes. (i.e., calibration, reporting and performance/pay differentiation).
  • Provide and support field, camping and mission services with standardization of talent management processes, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding and retention.
  • Provide leadership coaching and support on workforce strategy and development of talent pipeline.
  • Provide performance management coaching to supervisors throughout the year including mid-year reviews, development planning, and the performance improvement process (PIP) as needed.
  • Support successful execution of on boarding and off boarding for staff as they transition.
  • Shape the culture by instilling a value of best practices in local employment, labor and/or government agency understanding, and labor laws.
  • Driving a “total Mission First” mindset to ensure leaders and teams are working in an increasingly integrated way.
  • Embracing and leading a culture that is diverse, equitable, and ensures a sense of belonging for staff.
  • In partnership with Learning & Leadership and the Global VP of Organizational Health & Belonging, ensure that all departments, regions and divisions have effective D.E.B. (Diversity, Equity and Belonging) plans.
  • Lead internal investigations in partnership with Service Center based SMEs (i.e. legal or audit).
  • Support staff in understanding and complying with the various HR policies
  • Work closely with the various HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) such as Talent, HR Operations, Mission Care & Enrichment, and Organizational Health & Belonging to bring tools and support to staff in consistent ways.
  • Manage and oversee HR Staff (as assigned), providing training, supervision, evaluations and assignment of tasks.

Other Duties

  • Regularly support and encourage the spiritual needs of Young Life staff and volunteers through sharing God's Word and your testimony.
  • Engage in times of Bible study with fellow staff and volunteers.
  • Engage in times of prayer with fellow staff and volunteers
  • Consider and incorporate God's call to evangelism into every aspect of your responsibilities.

Specific Working Conditions

  • The anticipated salary for this position can range from $86,049-$110,916 annually depending on relevant experience and education.
  • Preferred Location: Residing in Colorado Springs and working at the Service Center.

Travel

  • 30% travel required.

Professional Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience preferred with HR functions such as recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation and evaluation; or in a HR generalist role.
  • 3 years of experience serving as a Young Life staff member or volunteer.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HR technical skills and core HR competencies with experience in performance management, talent development, talent acquisition, compensation & benefits, coaching, employee development and driving sustainable process improvements.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and maintain confidentiality with a strong sense of integrity and ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and strengthen positive relationships within mission services, camping, field, the HR team, and legal partners, peers, and leaders across the mission.
  • Ability to influence without formal authority and consultative method.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions in a manner consistent with position requirements, local labor law and Young Life’s mission statement and values.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to execute initiatives in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Strong business acumen, leadership, integration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • PHR, SPHR certification desired.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; masters preferred.
