Young Life’s staff associate role requires a dynamic, vibrant personality who will lead Young Life ministries in area schools. This person possesses the perseverance to ask, inspire and motivate volunteers and students in the ministry.

Chittenden County Young Life was established in 1999. Initially we had ministry in the Mount Mansfield Union School District, in Burlington, and then more recently in the Champlain Valley Union School District. In the post-COVID era we are looking to rebuild the ministry. There is an active local committee and additional former and current staff resources available. With recent staff transitions around the YL ministry in Addison Co. VT, there could become a great opportunity for someone to think and dream about the entire state of VT.

If you are tough enough for Vermont, which has been a challenging landscape for ministry, this is a ripe opportunity to grow Young Life and to grow in your personal faith! Chittenden County has 2 public colleges and 1 private and the city of Burlington, which offers a rich diversity of culture, food, arts, and more. There are 8 school districts in the county as well.

Responsibilities:

• Implement and lead a creative and consistent contact work ministry in a local Middle School.
• Establish a Campaigners/discipleship group.
• Work toward building a club or similar outreach event inviting new students and providing Campaigners with an opportunity to reach out to friends.
• Work alongside the committee to build relationships with, and to connect kids to local churches.
• Utilize Young Life camping ministry taking a weeklong outreach camp trip each summer and a weekend camp trip every November.
• Network and work collaboratively with the local church community.
• Attend monthly committee meetings and work to build relationships of friendship and ministry partnership with the local committee.
• Check and respond to emails from parents/community utilizing the 24 hour policy
• Join the committee to plan major fundraising events.
• Fulfill regional and national training obligations.

Qualifications:

• Protects his or her relationship with Jesus and is able to refresh the faith of others.
• Understands the culture of New England, particularly Vermont; desire to stay committed to the area.
• Experience/knowledge of Young Life; a missional mindset.
• Delights in young people; outgoing and at ease with meeting new people; values the individual over the numbers.
• Enjoys dreaming and developing a long-term vision; able to effectively communicate vision.
• Has, or is willing to develop, a base of personal support.
• Effective and willing communicator.
• Experience with Capernaum ministry or multicultural ministry is an added bonus.
