The Swim Instructor at the YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides proper, safe instruction of all levels of the Y USA swim lessons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans provided for each class level.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and parents/caregivers while supporting them in achieving their goals.
- Relays information regarding participants’ progress as well as other programs to parents/caregivers, when appropriate, while maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere.
- Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, parent handbooks, certificates).
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Swim Instructor I
- Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
Swim Instructor II
- Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
- High School Diploma
- 3 years teaching swim lessons experience
Swim Instructor III
- Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
- High School Diploma
- 5 years of experience teaching swim lessons
- 3 years of experience supervising a staff team
