POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sports & Recreation Director, the full-time Sports & Recreation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of seasonal Youth and Adult sports programs and ensuring that on-site activities are carried out in a timely fashion for the participants and members of the YMCA. This includes and is not limited to officiating responsibilities, assisting with staff recruitment and scheduling, facility and equipment procurement, and communication with parents and coaches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Act as liaison between YMCA and participants for recreation programs (i.e. communication, scheduling changes, mailings, etc.) 
2. Responsible for sports, skate center, and outdoor recreation equipment, curriculum, leagues, schedules, bookings, and event management.
3. Distribute equipment and information to coaches and participants as needed.
4. Assist the Sports and Recreation Director in the preparation of teams, schedules, clinics, camps, and special events.
5. Attend and assist with participant, staff, or organizational meetings as required.
6. Assist the Sports and Recreation Director in the applicant recruitment process.
7. Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating staff.
8. Act as referee for multiple YMCA sports leagues.
9. Perform field maintenance and set up equipment for games as needed.
10. Serve as acting manager (Leader on Duty) as needed at the Meyer Center facility during evenings and weekends, supporting and supervising front-line staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strongly prefer one (1) year minimum prior work experience in relevant field(s), with successful performance reviews.
2. Solid verbal and written communication skills, comfortable using computers, and ability to learn new software programs quickly.
3. Basic knowledge of multiple youth sports, refereeing, and event management.
4. Flexible schedule, which includes days/nights and weekends.
5. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to work independently as a self-starter; handle multiple tasks under limited supervision; work well in a team setting; detail-oriented.
7. Must be able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

• Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel
• Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency.
• Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30ft
• Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms
• Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform position functions
• Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously
• Must be able to handle stress and tension in a positive manner
• Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust
• Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, working in narrow and confining spaces that may be underground, overhead or at ground level. Twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs and lying on the stomach and back.
