Data Visualization Specialist

Overview

Your Part-Time Controller, LLC (YPTC), is growing fast, and has been a Best Place to Work for 10 years and counting. We’re seeking a broadly talented data viz expert for a remote-friendly client service role to help communicate information to, and on behalf of, our nonprofit clients. 

The successful applicant will be passionate about telling stories from numbers and be comfortable working in a wide range of data viz tools and formats, such as Datawrapper, Canva, Illustrator, Power BI, Tableau, or R/Python/D3.js. Some degree of industry experience with accounting, financial management, and/or nonprofit fundraising, programs, and operations. Graphic design training or experience is a big plus. Portfolio submissions are highly encouraged. 

This is a direct client service role with an expectation to work under minimal supervision to understand business “stories” and the numbers behind them, as well as to select and apply appropriate tools to build graphics to help tell those stories to variously specific and general audiences. The DV Consultant will manage their time and client relationships effectively and add value routinely. Applicants must be able to communicate clearly in a steady, friendly demeanor in conversation and in writing with diverse stakeholders to understand business needs, present solutions, and maintain relationships for future projects. Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end data visualization solutions: 
  • Gain and maintain trust by communicating clearly and following through reliably 
  • Understand and clarify the story each visualization needs to tell 
  • Collaborate with teammates for data ETL support when necessary 
  • Present drafts, gather feedback, and refine visualizations as needed 
• Leverage client deliverables into demo portfolios and templates for project replication 
• Assist teammates with data viz and graphic design ideas and opportunities 

Qualifications

Required 

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse audiences 
• Appreciation for cultural diversity and difference  
• Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional data viz experience 
• General understanding of business needs, motivations, and bottom lines 
• Portfolio-ready professional experience in at least two of the following: 
  • Datawrapper 
  • Canva 
  • Illustrator (for chart development) 
  • Power BI (front-end visual design) 
  • Tableau 
  • R/Python/D3.js (graphics development) 

Desired Experience 

• Training or professional experience with graphic design 
• Professional experience in accounting or financial management contexts 
• Familiarity with nonprofit and social sector terminology, needs, and storytelling 
• Data viz experience in the front ends of either Power BI or Tableau

Starting annual base salary is $65,000 to $85,000 based on a 35-hour work week for for this exempt position. A professional development reimbursement and technology stipend are also provided on an annual basis. Please note that the base salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by Your Part-Time Controller, LLC, which may include, but is not limited to, education, skill, experience, licensure and certifications, internal salary ranges, geographical location, and other business needs.
