The Cadre / Instructor position is the cornerstone of our program and as such, applicants must possess the desire to mentor, teach, and train at-risk youth. Desired applicants will have prior military experience or the civilian equivalent as listed below. Cadre will be assigned to a platoon-sized element and will have direct control of approximately 30 cadets. Cadre is responsible for the safety and accountability of all cadets in their platoon which includes ensuring cadets are on time to instructional periods and technical training sites. Cadre is responsible for teaching select military subjects including drills and ceremonies. Cadre assists academic instructors during classroom hours and may accompany cadets off-post during field trips and community service activities. Cadre will receive classroom and real-world training before assignment to a platoon. All duties are performed under the general supervision of the Shift Supervisor, Assistant Commandant, and Commandant.
This position is full-time shift work, earns leave, and is eligible for medical and retirement benefits.
Conditions of Employment
Military experience with honorable service. Instead of military experience, the following may be substituted:
Experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, Correctional Office, Juvenile Correctional Officer, or other P.O.S.T. certified position.
Experience as an Educator, Counselor, Coach, or Social Worker.
Experience at the level equivalent to a Cadre Helper/Assistant Youth Leader.
Similar position or experience that demonstrates the ability to work with at-risk youth.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License, Social Security Card, and birth certificate.
High School diploma or equivalency.
Must be able to work variable and irregular hours on shift work including weekends, and some holidays.
Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations.
Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with program personnel and the public.
Membership in the Louisiana State Guard is required as a condition of employment. Service in the Louisiana State Guard is substantially the same as normal State Government working conditions. It does not require employees to perform military training or deployments.
Salary is paid only through direct deposit / electronic funds transfer (EFT) to a checking or savings account.
