What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at YouthBuild Lake County?
We are looking for an experienced non-profit Controller to oversee the accounting functions, risk management, and administration of our YouthBuild Program. The Controller, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will develop financial and operational strategy, develop and monitor control systems designed to preserve company assets, and report accurate financial results to leadership, the board of directors, and stakeholders. You must be an organized professional with a great eye for detail, be reliable, and be able to carry out tasks autonomously or collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
- Ensure compliance with, review, and create internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the senior leadership team; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Prepare all agency and grant of budgets or forecasts
- Coordinate and lead all audits, prepare all required schedules for financial audit, OMB 133 Audit and 990s
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
- * Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Manage Accounts payable and Accounts Receivable

- Supervise accounting and administrative staff
Skills
- Proven experience in non-profit accounting
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
- Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
- Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software QuickBooks desktop version
- Well-organized with the ability to prioritize
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- BS/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field is required
- Professional certification (e.g. CPA) is a plus
