What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at YRC Freight?
The Janitor (19) will clean the terminal facility and maintain and safe facility working environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sweep, picks up debris, empties trash barrels and dumps them into trash hoppers or large compactors to maintain a clean dock environment. During the winter months, employee might spread salt with a spreader, shovel walkways, spread absorbent to soak up the moisture from snow or rain.
- Drive a forklift with a sweeping attachment on the front of it to sweep up the debris, or simply takes a forklift to it’s designated “work area”.
- Organize, lifts, and stocks dock supplies. Typical stocking will include driving a forklift or hand cart to haul the particular item. Items stocked range from propane tanks, tape, banding material, brooms, shovels, absorbent, blocking, plywood, cage carts, air bags.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Coordinate all duties required to maintain a clean and safe working environment within OSHA guidelines.
- Complete all work orders and related company documents as instructed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of principles, methods and tools of the trade.
- Must pass written and driving exam to operate a forklift.
- Ability to work all scheduled ours and overtime if necessary.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in building maintenance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental working conditions vary and employee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather. Works on varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting, heights, and confined and congested areas. Occasional exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease, detergent cleaning solutions, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time. The ability to frequently lift up to 58 lbs from floor to waist and carry objects up to 50 feet. Occasionally lift up to 80 lbs. Ability to perform repetitive tasks; stretch, turn, twist, and reach overhead; bend, crouch, squat, kneel and stoop for extensive periods of time. The ability to operate a forklift, dolly, hand truck, pallet truck, carts, and other equipment is necessary for loading and unloading freight.
