What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant position at YRC Freight?
The Maintenance Assistant will maintain and safe facility working environment. Complete light repairs and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and correct malfunctions of equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance of building equipment and property.
- Perform necessary repairs to equipment to maintain safe working order.
- Complete general maintenance as required.
- Sweeps, picks up debris, empties trash barrels and dumps them into trash hoppers or large compactors to maintain a clean dock.
- Coordinate all duties required to maintain a clean and safe working environment within OSHA guidelines.
- Complete all work orders and related company documents as instructed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of principles, methods and tools of the trade.
- Must pass written and driving exam to operate a forklift.
- Ability to work all scheduled ours and overtime if necessary.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in building maintenance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental working conditions vary and employee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather. Works on varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting, heights, and confined and congested areas. Occasional exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease, detergent cleaning solutions, dust, fumes, and chemicals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time. The ability to frequently lift up to 58 lbs from floor to waist and carry objects up to 50 feet. Occasionally lift up to 80 lbs. Ability to perform repetitive tasks; stretch, turn, twist, and reach overhead; bend, crouch, squat, kneel and stoop for extensive periods of time. The ability to operate a forklift, dolly, hand truck, pallet truck, carts, and other equipment is necessary for loading and unloading freight.
