Eye Technician

Description:

Ophthalmic Medical Technicians, assist the Optometrists by performing Ophthalmic clinical functions. This position will administer eye exams, administer eye medications, and instruct the patient in the care and use of corrective lenses.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Optometric terminology.
• Understand and comply with policies and procedures associated with an Optometric practice.
• Understand and comply with HIPPA.
• Understand and comply with the HI-TECH Act of 2009.
• Knowledge of optics, eye physiology, and business management.
• Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventative health-care measures.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit for long periods. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Duties:

Duties:

• Test and measure patient's acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus, ocular movement and color as requested by physician.
• Measure intraocular pressure of eyes, using glaucoma test
• Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment
• Examine eye for abnormalities of cornea and anterior or posterior chambers, using slit lamp
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
• Instruct patient in eye care and use of glasses or contact lenses
• Instruct patient in vision therapy, using eye exercises
• Obtain and record patient's preliminary case history
• Adjust and repair glasses, using screwdrivers and pliers
• Assist patient in frame selection
• Assist in fabrication of eyeglasses or contact lenses
• Develop visual skills, near-visual discrimination, and depth perception, using developmental glasses
• Maintain records, schedules appointments, perform bookkeeping, correspondence, and filing
• Maintain inventory of materials and cleans instruments.

Visual:

• Ability to read on LED display on therapeutic instruments for assessment and intervention.
• Able to access and manipulate the environment at varied distances.

Motor:

• Be able to stoop, bend, twist, reach.
• Be able to safely lift and carry up to 25 Lbs. And balance, at times, equipment in excess of 25 Lbs. (up to 100 pounds with assistance if needed).
• Be able to stand on their feet for periods in excess of 1 hour.
• Safely lift, move, adjust, transfer, or position patients, and equipment using proper body mechanics.

Intellectual:

• Read, comprehend, and retain relevant information in, medical records and patient related information.

Behavioral and Social Attribute:

• Demonstrate a concern for others, appropriate interpersonal skills, interest and motivation.

Communication:

• Effectively articulate verbal and written information to patients, families, staff, instructors and fellow students in both academic and clinic settings.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
