NATURE OF WORK
Performs a variety of duties of routine difficulty associated with the supervision of offenders on probation supervision; duties will primarily focus on the urinalysis process, including observed urine collections, appropriate documentation of chain of custody forms and files in accordance with department policy; requires regular interaction with donors and other department staff members.
(Illustrative Only) Primarily focuses on tasks associated with urinalysis, including taking observed urine samples from offenders, filling out the appropriate chain of custody documents in accordance with policy and procedure, documenting case records of drug test, results and other incidents; may assist probation officers and surveillance officers in the supervision of a caseload of individuals placed on probation; compiles information and develops reports identifying elements of the offender, family and personal history, impact on victims and other information; may meet with offenders, family members, friends, victims and/or affected parties; may update and manage files, records and other paperwork associated with individual files and the entire caseload; may develop, update and maintain statistical and related records and reports; may visit with probationers on a scheduled and unscheduled basis; may make determination and assess compliance with court-ordered conditions of probation; may prepare and submit court documents, forms and other items necessary for court records and information; may testify in court; identifies and recommends equipment and supply needs. regular and reliable attendance is required; performs all other functions as assigned.
High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate, as well as related experience working with offenders/public; must have an unrestricted Arizona Operator's license, and carry minimum automobile insurance upon appointment and maintain these throughout the course of employment; must be willing to work rotating shifts if necessary, weekends, and/or holidays as required or assigned; must submit to a security check, including fingerprinting, pre-employment urinalysis, polygraph, and psychological examination and must sign all applicable pre-employment certifications and affidavits. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background checks; a valid Arizona State Driver's License may be required; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment and Court facilities. May be exposed to infectious diseases and potential physical harm.
Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders; basic principles of probation supervision; Adult Probation or Juvenile Court Policies and Procedures; principles and practices of case and records management; legal terminology and court processes and procedures; principles of excellent customer service; principles of strict confidentiality of all department, probationer and employee information at all times.
Skills in: Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relations with probationers, court employees, and the public; strong oral and written communication is required; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications; problem-solving and motivating probationers.
