Director of Crisis Services
YWCA Evansville is seeking a Director of Crisis Services to provide leadership and vision to our domestic violence and emergency housing shelter. The Director of Crisis Services provides overall management and supervision to the shelter program, including supervision of staff, developing and implementing policies and procedures, ensuring maintaining compliance with grants and contracts, and integrating the program with others in the organization. The Director of Crisis Services is responsible to ensure uninterrupted on-site 24/7/365 coverage of the shelter facility.
The ideal candidate will have strong ties to community resources and agencies that are in the position to help our clients. This position will oversee and direct employees as well as interns, and shelter relief staff. The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with clients in a nonjudgmental manner. Candidate must be flexible and able to work with a diverse population. Knowledge of and experience working with homeless issues, domestic violence, addiction, client advocacy, community resources and other high-risk populations is desired. Must be sensitive and responsive to the cultural differences in the YWCA’s service population and able to interact with staff in a supervisory and professional manner
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related human services field. Masters level candidate preferred. Candidates with non-traditional educational pathways and commensurate life/work experience considered.
Experience: Five years of experience and progressive responsibility in a human service setting. Background in addiction counseling, homeless services, and/or domestic violence services preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Embraces the core values and mission of the YWCA including eliminating racism and empowering women;
- Proposes, plans, implements, manages, and evaluates YWCA’s domestic violence and emergency shelter program and staff.
- Accountable for the fulfillment of YWCA’s strategic plan and compliance with YWCA’s program targets with regard to the shelter program.
- Directly supervises family advocates, child advocate, shelter assistants, interns and shelter relief staff.
- At the direction of the CEO, conducts and coordinates hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation of shelter staff.
- Works with director of finance and CEO to develop and manage the shelter budget and prepare funding proposals.
- Develops, implements, and ensure compliance with shelter policies, procedures, and practice norms.
- Develops and implements recreational, educational, support and educational group programs;
- Enforces housing program guidelines and emergency procedures;
- Schedules staff and provides routine on-call coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays in rotation with other direct service staff.
- Maintains all required documentation in accordance with YWCA policy and procedure and contractual mandates.
- Maintains confidentiality of information, written or verbal, according to YWCA policy and legal requirements.
- Ensures safe, supportive environment and positive community interactions in a congregate residential setting.
- Upholds YWCA policies and obligations in program administration and in one’s own comportment and performance.
- Consistent, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Ensures adequate staffing for program excellence and compliance by filling vacancies as needed and fills in for staff as needed on all shifts.
- Meets regularly with the CEO and housing staff.
- Coordinates with director of operations regarding building or equipment repairs.
- Attends professional development meetings, training, and conferences as appropriate and as approved by the CEO.
- Represents the YWCA on committees and at community programs and events as appropriate;
- Compiles statistics as required.
- Keeps abreast of current literature in the field and attends professional development workshop and conferences as approved by the CEO (at least 10 hours of training a year).
- Conducts assessments of potential clients.
- Coordinates services to children with child advocate.
- Confers with staff regarding client placement.
- Oversees case management assignments.
- Assists clients with individual development plans and meets with them as needed.
- Conducts direct motivational interviewing with assigned clients, keeps progress notes, and meets regularly with staff regarding case plans for all clients and clients’ needs and referrals.
- Maintains contact with referring agencies for joint casework as appropriate.
- Holds current driver’s license and able to drive YWCA van.
- Responds to needs of all clients in case of emergency.
- Helps ensure that the YWCA’s mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
- Possesses positive management style; Demonstrates strong leadership, interpersonal and management skills.
- Demonstrates initiative and responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Any staff member may be asked to fill in or help with duties from any department in the building as the need arises.
Base salary
Range 50,000 – 53,000
