Shelter Clinician

Hours: Monday: 10am - 6pm or 11am to 7pm (flexible)

Tuesday to Friday: 8:30am to 4:30pm

The Shelter Clinician will provide individual therapy and substance abuse counseling for Soromundi Commons emergency shelter guests with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. This position serves as an additional support to assist shelter clients to improve their ability to effectively gain independence by managing life and health issues, to increase quality of life as they work to resolve their homelessness.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Average caseload of 18 to 23 clients; clients are referred upon entry for mental health and/or suspected substance abuse issues and contact should be made within 24-48 hours of entry;
• Coordinate client referrals and perform client intake assessment in the absence of the Shelter Case Manager, develop an individual service plan necessary to meet client’s goals and needs;
• Advocate for clients and work collaboratively with Shelter Case Manager to maintain regular communication and contact with key stakeholders engaged in client’s service delivery;
• Practice client-centered, trauma-focused, solution-based therapies in addition to providing substance abuse recovery counseling, education, and assistance to clients;
• Assist clients in the identification of community based housing and treatment programs that best meet their individual needs;
• Develop, maintain, and document client assessment log and intervention plans in HMIS within 24-48 hours of initial meeting;
• Monitor and track client program participation and ensures it meets internal and external reporting procedures;
• Participate in Homeless Outreach and HOPE team meetings via Capitol Region Mental Health Center;
• Remain current with trends, developments, and best practices within the field of social work; Participate in training and other personal development activities to enhance knowledge and understanding of clinical best practices, racial justice and women’s economic empowerment;
• Participate in other duties as assigned;

Education:

• Masters in Social Work (MSW) degree or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience;

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years in the practice of client social or psychological assessment and services or relevant work experience required.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a clinical role required.
• Bi-lingual English and Spanish preferred.
