POSITION TITLE: Educator STATUS: Exempt, FT GRADE: 2 SALARY: $47k-51k

SUMMARY: The Educator is responsible for the development, scheduling, and implementation of YWCA prevention programs to audiences in schools, community groups and other settings. The Educator engages in community relationships to promote knowledge and collaborations. The Educator actively supports the promotion of synergy across YWCA programs and in Racial Justice work. *Note: This position description also is valid for a Bilingual Educator.


COLLABORATES WITH: The Educator collaborates with: Coordinator Education Services and the other location team and staff members; YWCA staff members; Volunteers; representatives of Community and State agencies and coalitions; K-12 school personnel.


ESSENTIAL responsibilities: \

Direct Services: Schedule and present Prevention Education programs in designated communities. Speak to community groups, businesses, and professional and religious organizations about sexual violence issues.

Community Engagement: Assist with professional training for higher education, organizations and companies; plan and present Erin’s Law based trainings to school communities (this includes school personnel, parents, students). Maintain on-going relationships with all model schools and youth organizations within the local service area. Schedule and attend resource fairs and other select sponsored events, i.e., "Take Back the Night" and community events, as needed. Participate in appropriate city, state and national coalitions, and advocacy efforts. Network with community groups, state agencies and coalitions, providing services related to sexual abuse, and violence prevention, especially in designated target areas.

Reporting: Maintain an awareness of potential child abuse cases and report related incidents as required. Maintain member confidentiality as designated by law or funding sources. Manage and maintain comprehensive statistical records, in accordance with funding and YWCA guidelines.

Professional Development: Complete twelve hours per year of continuing education in providing counseling services, with at least six of those hours addressing the specific member populations served. Complete other continuing education and training as set by ICASA or other agencies/funders.


NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: May work with, or assist in, the supervision of volunteers. Assist with planning special programs, i.e., Sexual Assault Awareness Month, YWCA Week without Violence, Day of Commitment.


OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Other duties outside of the responsibilities of the position may be assigned, whether for a project, special needs task or other assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Subject Mater Expertise: Previous training in sexual assault and/or related issues is preferred. One year of prior experience in educational programming, casework, counseling or tutoring youth is required, although two years of such experience are preferred.

The work requires both cultural sensitivity and an understanding of school community culture. Working with youth and others requires diplomacy, and when necessary, the communication of understanding and empathy. The Educator must work well as a team player.

Client-Service Orientation: Recognizes needs of diverse stakeholders and approaches relationships with an inclusive service-orientation, to ultimately maximize impact of service delivery.

Technology: The role requires developed skill in analysis to review data and program outcomes. Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office are necessary, with additional required knowledge of Internet use and the completion of web-based platforms i.e. Zoom.

Professional Training Required: Complete the ICASA forty-hour sexual assault crisis intervention training within ninety days of employment start date (if not completed within the prior two years). Complete sixty hours of adult-specific sexual abuse/assault training within first year of employment (if completed within the prior five years). Complete other continuing education and training as set by ICASA or other agencies/funders, in addition to undertaking any needed renewal of 40-hr training.

Note: A bilingual Educator must have both conversational and written fluency in the language of the foreign-language only population that is served. Cultural Competency and proficiency in the population’s language and English are required.


EDUCATION REQUIRED: At minimum, a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university, in a related field such as Human Services, Social Work, etc., is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical and environmental demands described represented here of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The Educator must be available for a flexible work schedule that includes potential on-call shifts. Work day consists of spending time at schools, and giving presentations, with noise levels which are usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the Educator is regularly required to sit; stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; and talk or hear. The Educator must occasionally lift and/or move materials that may weigh up to 15 pounds. The Educator may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions during travel to education events. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. This position may require work on some evenings and weekends. Schedule can vary depending on the needs of the agency.
