What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at YWCA Princeton?
Job Description:
The Lifeguard’s primary responsibility is to the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. The Lifeguard will use the skills and knowledge from the American Red Cross training course while on duty in any and all situations that occur in the pool.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Current certifications in the following:
a. American Red Cross Lifeguard/Training/First Aid
b. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
2. Other certifications required by local or state laws
3. Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
2. An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
3. Leadership and public relations skills
4. Decision-making skills
Responsibilities:
1. Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
2. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
3. Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
4. Complete records and reports
5. Participate in regular in-service training sessions
6. Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance)
7. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
