What You’ll Do
This will be an individual who will collaborate in the creation of products that will continuously disrupt and define the consumer electronics landscape, specifically within our innovative mophie product line. Someone who can effectively communicate ideas through sketches, 3D models and renderings and see them through production. As a member of the Industrial Design Team for mophie, the selected candidate will work closely with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, product development managers, project managers, sales, overseas contract manufacturers, & outside consultants to design world-class consumer electronic products for our mophie brand.
Job Responsibilities
- Participation in all stages of product development from conceptualization to final production
- Generate concepts, conduct design reviews with the product development team and provide design collateral as needed
- Effectively communicate your ideas through thoughtfully generated sketches & renderings in design reviews
- Generate CAD models and 3D data files
- Generate high quality renderings for various purposes
- Work with other groups of the company (Marketing, Creative, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Test Group, Regulatory & Compliance Group.)
- Work directly with consultants, vendors, and directly with the factory as needed
- Produce prototypes and mockups to support in the communication of the designs
- Work directly with prototyping vendors as needed to procure high quality functional and non-functional prototypes
- Generating rough mockups and rapid prototypes for design reviews
- Review any cosmetic (working and non-working) prototype before they are sent to a client
- Generate product concept reviews to ensure the design intent is maintained through the product development process and manufacturing process
- Conducting onsite reviews of the product to evaluate and provide real-time feedback to the factories
- Ensure that all of the open issues are addressed, noted and made aware of with the rest of the product development team
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and research projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to synthesize and present research, and produce design concepts and design development presentations for client review meetings
- Trend Research: Participate in trend research with the design team. Trends are an essential component in the design field and staying current with the latest colors, materials and finish trends are vital
What You’ll Need to be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design
- 1-2 years of professional experience in Industrial Design
- Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Expertise in 3D modelling, specifically with Solidworks and Keyshot
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport & China business travel visa
- Has a basic knowledge of manufacturing processes; injection molding, die-casting, painting processes, stamping, anodizing, CNC process, die-cutting, and more.
- Has excellent verbal communication as well as visual communication skills, from traditional hand sketches to digital drawings
