Job Summary:The Shipping & Receiving Technician is responsible for assisting in the positioning of inventory by daily safe grain loading and unloading of trucks and railcar.
Rate:
$19.20 an hour with a $1.50 hourly night shift premium.
Hours:
2-2-3 Work Schedule, 4:50 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Week 1: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
Extended hours during bi-annual shutdown, required. On occasion, may be required to attend training sessions outside of scheduled hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Physically monitor the receiving/loading process to ensure proper flow.
- Safely operate various heavy equipment used to transfer material, product, and rail cars.
- Assist in coordinating inbound soybean receiving activities and segregation of product.
- Verifies loading instructions and paperwork to ensure accurate loading of product.
- Receive and inspect incoming raw materials, process aids, and packaging materials relevant to department. Inspects interior for cleanliness and exterior for leaks or damage.
- Take samples of products, analyze quality, and record resulting test data.
- Maintain logs and follow preventative maintenance activities and records.
- Make necessary physical adjustments to meet desired operating parameters.
- Notify Supervisor or Management of operational or food safety concerns.
- Assist all other employees and departments as required for efficient plant operation.
- Communicates regularly with all necessary personnel to ensure efficient plant operation.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
- Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High School or Equivalent.
- Experience: 1 year in grain handling or railroad related field, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess industrial machinery aptitude and understanding of the railroad and commercial truck industry. Working knowledge of plant equipment and safety.
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and complete inspection checks.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and senior level management.
- Ability to maintain good attendance habits.
- Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit.
- Frequently required to climb to levels of 125 feet or more, confined, and harnessed. Use of stairs and ladders are required.
- Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
- Operate in an office and production environment. Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the production environment is usually very loud.
