Overview:

The Behavioral Therapist will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide professional level counseling to individuals under the direction of the Director of Services. As a member of the treatment team, he/she is responsible to provide a broad range of treatment services including individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention as well as completing assessments and reports. Work closely with guardians, families, and referral sources to provide quality care to those served.

Essential Responsibilities:

1.    Attends to the full spectrum of therapeutic needs of individuals served

2.    Collect information about individuals through interviews, observation, and tests.

3.    Guide individuals in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their past trauma.

4.    Maintain confidentiality of records relating to individual’s treatment 

5.    Maintain billing information; submit billing information to the business office in a timely manner

6.    Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.

7.    Act as a liaison with other organizations for the coordination of care of the individual

8.    Ensure all standards by governing agencies and referral sources are met. 

9.    Attend all required training and meetings.

10.  Assists with employee training on mental illness, mental health treatment and others at requested or assigned

11.  Interfaces with the community to help promote Zion Recovery’s mission and values

12.  Provides on-call services, when necessary

13.  Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

14.  Treat all people with respect and dignity; act as an advocate as needed.

15.  Work with all co-workers, staff, and outside agencies in a cooperative and professional manner.

16.  Follow all Zions’ Policies and Procedures

17.  Communicate with other departmental staff (residential, work services, employment services) as necessary to ensure coordination of quality service provision for clients.

18.  Other duties as assigned

 

Ability to sit for extended periods of time, use of computer and telephone systems which includes coordinator of eye and hand and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, working with files). Requires talking, seeing, hearing, and reading; expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, received and communicated detailed information through oral communication, clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance, must be able to read and understand text.  Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. 

 

Must have the ability to understand and follow oral instruction, to understand and follow written instruction, to guide and/or give instruction, and to make decisions in accordance with established procedures and policies. Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written date and verbal information to reach logical conclusions. 

 

  1. Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
  2. Current Iowa Licensure
  3. 3-5 year experience with therapy services
  4. Experience with MS Office
