Yard Mule Driver Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes heavy equipment and performs a variety of physical and labor-intensive tasks to move cargo and trailers around plant property.
  • Safely operates a Yard Mule Truck and assists with the loading of freight.
  • Transfers, loads, and unloads bulk liquid products.
  • Prepares reports and maintains accurate records and logbooks in accordance with Federal and State regulations/standards and company policies.

Yard Mule Driver Routinely:

  • Operates a Yard Mule truck to transport cargo to secure areas for transport.
  • Performs pre-shift mechanical inspection of assigned company truck (Yard Mule), truck cargo, equipment and supplies, such as fire extinguisher, tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. And promptly reports any deficiencies or repair needs to the Logistics Manager or Maintenance department.
  • Couples and uncouples trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines.
  • Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions and verifies that the vehicle and loading equipment are positioned properly and secured safely.
  • Maintains truck logs of loads according to state and federal regulations and prepares and submits completed daily shift activity reports.
  • Completes and maintains daily paperwork and records such as manifests and records of deliveries for invoicing.
  • Confirms hazardous materials are properly handled and placarded safely and efficiently, before hauling according to federal, state, and all other regulatory agencies guidelines and requirements and performs all required safety checks and communicates need for repairs or maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean work area that is free of debris or safety hazards.
  • Positions blocks and ties ropes around items to secure cargo for transit.
  • Transfers loaded and unloaded liquid products trailers, which requires lifting and connecting hoses and fittings.
  • Uses math for measurement, tracking, and reporting
  • Engages in writing emails, reports, and other pertinent documents relative to performing the job.
  • Uses technology, software, and hardware to write communications and reports.
  • Works flexible schedules due to product schedule and direction changes often with irregular meals, irregular work/rest cycles.
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions of products.
  • Backs trailers and Class 8 vehicles into tight spaces on plant property.
  • Accepts schedule and direction when there are changes in workloads.
  • Attends safety huddles, mandatory safety stand-down meetings, and ongoing training sessions.
  • Performs other job-related duties that may be as assigned as needed.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum – High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three (3) to six (6) months truck driving experience.
  • Mandatory – Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and a HazMat and Tanker Endorsement.
  • Yard Mule Drivers are subject to passing a physical and or DOT screening along with other job-related testing.
  • Mandatory – valid forklift operator certificate.
  • Math abilities include:
  • add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
  • complete basic common fraction calculations
  • compute rate, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • convert gallons/grams/liters and pounds per gallon.
  • Language, Writing, and Reasoning

Must be proficient in the English language and able to:

  • read, write, and understand instructions
  • interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • speak effectively before groups of customers or Team Members
  • understand the similarities and differences between words and between a series of numbers
  • solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule formats

Required – Basic Computer Operating Skills include both Word processing software and order processing systems.

Physical Demand and Work Conditions:

  • Yard Mule Drivers frequently:
  • Engage in a high volume of walking, sitting, and standing as part of their daily schedule at ZXP.
  • Climb ladders, balance in awkward positions while loading and unloading trucks, and ascend and descend from heights out of truck cabs.
  • Bend, twist at the waist, neck, shoulders, wrists, repeatedly grip and grasp, and operate foot pedals.
  • Stand, walk, climb or balance themselves as well as reach with their hands, arms, and feet
  • Talks and listens.
  • Lifts and/or moves up to fifty(50) pounds.
  • Occasionally:
  • Sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use the sense of smell
  • Lifts and/or moves more than one-hundred (100) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities are required to perform this job. They include, but are not limited to distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • All employees and contractors of ZXP are exposed to weather conditions consistent with the Texas region. Also, frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, and equipment, with the potential for electrical shock, and exposure to high noise levels typical of a manufacturing plant with occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • A mandatory Dress Code Policy applies to all employees and may be found in the Safety Training Manual and ZXP Employee Handbook.
