Becoming a qualified intellectual disabilities professional requires a bachelor‘s degree or higher in special education, sociology, psychology, or a related field. It is also desirable to have experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, with many states requiring at least 1 to 2 years. Once you meet the education and experience qualifications, you can apply for QIDP certification from your state. In addition to these requirements, excellent communication skills and a proven ability to provide support services and develop progressive learning programs are essential for this role.
