The primary responsibility of a detention officer is to oversee inmates in state-run facilities, including jails and prisons, as well as in courtrooms and juvenile detention centers. It is their duty to maintain a safe and orderly environment for the inmates and to report any concerning behavior to their superiors. Additionally, they may need to physically restrain unruly inmates and escort them to and from the facility for transfers and court appearances.
