What is medical anthropology?

Medical anthropology is the study of how health and illness are shaped, experienced, and understood in light of global, historical, and political forces. It examines the ways in which culture and society are organized around or influenced by issues of health, health care, and related issues. Medical anthropologists seek to understand the ways in which people in different cultures and social contexts experience health and illness and how they respond to it.
